On June 7th 2025, A delegation led by Mr. Mao Jingwen, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering , the head of the technical board of the New Round of Exploration Breakthrough Initiative and the independent director of Chifeng Gold, paid a working visit to Wulong Mine by holding discussions on the exploration strategy, resources consolidation and mining capacity expansion of Wulong Mine. The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Cui Deliang, the General manager of Wulong Mine and the management.
Accompanied by Mr. Wang Fengwei, the Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of Wulong Mine, Mr. Mao and his team toured the underground to assess Lode 80 exposed at Level 19 of No.4 Zone. After establishing the clues on the mineralization rules, the orientation and scale of Lode 80 and its correlation with Jixinling Fault Zone, Mr. Mao noted that the mineralization with such substantial down-dip and strike extent and high-quality is rarely seen in a typical quartz- vein gold mine, presenting huge exploration potential at the depth, which could be further tested and validated by the deep holes drilled at the deeper area. Given the similarities in mineralization characteristics between Eastern Liaoning gold field and the well-recognized Jiaodong gold field and the relatively shallow mining depth of less than 1,000 meter in Wulong Mine, it is highly prospective to intercept more substantial mineralization at depth by carrying out aggressive mine site exploration program. In addition to the extraction of ore reserve from the main lode, research and samplings should be conducted on the alteration zones surrounding the quartz veins. The altered wall rocks should be mined if meeting the threshold of industrial grade so as to maximize resources recovery and utilization to generate additional ore sources and tonnage. More exploration works should be implemented to test the extension of the split vein and the parallel vein of the main lodes, which should be extracted together via the existing mine workings.
Mr. Mao and his team was briefed by Mr. Wang Fengwei on the mineralization, the mineral rights status, the progress of deep mine exploration and future exploration plans of Wulong Mine after the underground tour. In the presentation session, Mr. Mao discussed and analyzed the geological and mineralization rules of Wulong mine together with the site team by drawing on his relevant experience and expertise, answered questions and provided insights on the exploration works of Wulong Mine. In the question-and-answer session, Mr. Mao shared the insights on the priorities of Wulong Mine as follows:
- Act more proactively and aggressively to explore and tap the potential in the deep area of the mine by using the extent and characteristics of the main lodes as the clues and indicators
- Make efforts to consolidate and acquire the mineral concessions in the surrounding regions for the integrated the exploration and development
- Maximize resources utilization and recovery by studying and extracting the low-grade ore in the alteration zones and explore the possibility of discovering additional wall rock alterations, similar to the mineralization style of Jixinling Fault Zone
- Improve the underground ventilation by lowering the temperature and adapting mechanic mining in order to create a safe, worker-friendly environment in the endeavor to increase resource and the production expansion.
As a major mine in Eastern Liaoning gold field, Wulong Gold Mine is expected to champaign and take a leading role for the comprehensive development and utilization of mineral resource in the region so as to contribute more to the growth of local economies, Mr. Mao added.
The delegates from the Mineral Resources Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Geosciences, the Prospecting Office of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the Technical Center for Mineral Exploration under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Liaoning Provincial Department of Natural Resources, and 241 Brigade of Liaoning Nuclear Geological Bureau participated the site tour and the technical discussion.
